Have you tried cooking dinner while someone is tugging your leg and screaming their head off?

Thursday, January 12, 2012

No, you haven't? Let me tell you it makes for one heck of a party headache. For the most part, this motherhood thing is pretty dandy. And "the most part" is 99% of the time {ok may be slightly less. let's go with 98%}. But man alive, these past three days Evelyn has been in tantrum mode, SEVERELY.  That makes it very difficult to accomplish anything, in particular cooking dinner for a husband who has been at work all day and would probably appreciate a nice warm meal when he gets home.

Yesterday we decided that maybe she needed to get out and stretch her legs. So we went to Costco for lunch, of course, and headed to the mall where we let our child risk her life by exposing her to thousands of germs in that playpen thing. It was worth it so she could do this:
SHE'S A BIG GIRL NOW!
But not big enough for that play place rudeness. Some little boy full on pushed Ev down and I was NOT having that. Mean kids.

  1. She is so cute at the play ground thing! And cooking dinner with a baby in tantrum mode=no bueno. We are in "hold me, no don't hold me" mode so it seems like there is constant screaming around my house. Hopefully it'll pass. For both of our sakes!

  2. Nice work Evelyn! She is much taller vertical. I've only been to the Tyson mall in McLean, (maybe that is TysonII?) but their kid structure was the best I've ever seen.

  3. So cute! I took the kids I used to nanny for there once after a movie and never went back bc of all the little meanies there! I don't understand how people can just let their kids trample over littler kids? But what do I know, I was just the nanny not the mama :)

  4. Thank you for the sweet comment on my blog! I love yours! Gosh, it really makes me want a new layout. I really need to sit down and do that!
Your little girl is so darling! And I love your apron! I can so relate to the whole multitasking struggles with a little lady involved! :)

  5. Isabelle does this too! It definitely adds a little excitement to cooking dinner and juggling a toddler. Maybe Evelyn just wants to get a closer look at your ADORABLE apron! I love that!

  9. Cute blog and you have a darling family- I'm loving your little Ev!! It's funny how you plan to stay away from mall play places until you realize how much your little one loves it and you love watching them love it. And I'm irritated at that kid along with you!!

  11. Sounds like everyone is having dinner problems lately. I hear ya. I get less of the tugging and more of the tantrums, I think.
    Hang in there!

  12. I don't know if I would/will be able to stop myself from snapping at other people's kids if they push(ed) my little one down. Looks like she had a great time, though.! :)

  15. This is so my life right now. Between the hours of 4-5:30, (when I'm cooking dinner) my house is L.O.U.D. Yay for walking Ev!

  19. Haha! Yes, the germ thing freaks me out which is why my kiddos haven't played in the mall yet. I'm way too paranoid! Evelyn is such a doll! Cute video

And I completely empathize with you about trying to cook (or do anything at home) with a cranky child underfoot. Those little stinkers--it's a good think we are completely in love with them! =)

  22. This is the reason we almost only do crock pot meals now. Because if I have to deal with Olivia whining at me while I make dinner we usually just end up having cereal or waiting until Daddy gets home. Seriously. No fun. You have my sympathies.

  23. She's adorable with that flower :) Did you make that?

  24. she's adorable, and what a mean little boy.!haha but yes, ive cooked with a little one to my hip as well, my nephew. he's so used to being held at home that he wants constant holding when he's at my house. usually we let him cry it out or show him another toy to play with so he doesnt think about it, but sometimes you have to cave in because the whining is an instant headache. haha

  27. My lifesaver: the crock pot. I cant tell you how many times I have to resort to making dinner during naptime!

  28. Cooking with a little one around is NO joke. I have been trying to photograph more of what I cook and add recipes on my blog... That alone is hard to do - we had my 2.5 year old niece staying over and I tried to do all three (cook, watch her, take photos)... Not happening.

    Kudos to you for trying!

  29. oh yes...i've been right there with ya! We love our little ones, but cooking with them creates quite the challenge...can i get an amen?? ;) I remember being able to make 99% of dinner with one hand and hold my new little boy in the other no problem...that was when he was a tiny little guy...now the one-arm hold only lasts for a minute or two before it gives out ;) haha

those photos are ADORABLE :) And the video was great! yay for your little walker!

  36. Thanks for stopping by my blog....love yours. The little one = ADORABLE.

As for the evil play place in the mall. Argh. There are some very mean little humans out there. We were just at our local mall recently with some friends and a bigger kid was literally chasing my friends 4yr old little boy. Where were the parents you ask? Good question...who knows!

  39. LOL! Yes, no matter if it's 1 kid or 3 or 5 tugging at you and needing your attention, it's tough trying to take care of what needs to be done, especially dinner!

    she's such a cutie =)

  46. So sweet. I can't wait for my little guy to walk. At the moment he is basically refusing which is funny since he climbs on just about everything. It takes alot of coaxing to get him to take a few steps

Your little Ev is so very cute. Love those head bands you put on her, just precious!

  56. I know what you mean about having a clingy baby!! Once Olivia started teething if I wasn't holding her 100% of the time after coming home from work, then life is OVER! I've spent many nights having to hold her while cooking dinner or getting things ready for the next day! Moms really can do ANYTHING!! :)
