6 months + Fashion Feature

Before Ev was born, my wonderful friend Rachel gave me a Dr. Seuss book entitled "Oh baby, the places you'll go!" This is the one book that was read to Ev while in the womb, and Jared was the one to read it to her, actually. We were busy moving, traveling and enjoying our new city all during her 6th month and I never got a chance to do a "happy half-way" mark photoshoot. Instead, here's a montage of all the things she did in her 6th month. It just reminds me of that book, because she has already seen so many places coast to coast in her short little life.

Also.
My fabulous friends Monica and Whitney host a site that gives a different spin to the term "fashion blog." You can submit a fashion question and have lovely ladies from all over give you their input! This is perfect for us who have husbands that have their heads down when they tell you you look good.
My inquiry is featured today. Check it out!

Forget Pinkberry and ice cream by the ounce gigs.
Local, old-fashioned ice cream is where it's at.
{yes, we let Ev have a smidgen of ice cream.}

Our Move in a Storyboard

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Our past 4 weeks have been a whirlwind, traveling from LA to Fresno for a week then Fresno to Virginia. We finally feel like we have a hold on our lives again. That always feels nice. During the whole moving fiasco Evelyn turned 6 months, and I feel like I failed to document that milestone. It seems like once she hit that marker she decided she was a big girl and did all kinds of nice things for us. Like..
- sit up so I don't have to hold her 24/7
- eat pureed veggies
- take a bath in the big kid bath
- scoot herself in circles on her tummy
- wrestles with me
- drinks a drop of water from a sippy cup [can't quite get down the sucking on that thing]
- plays with her toys for 10+ minutes without getting bored
- can hold her bottle by herself
- talks and giggles that just melt my heart
- is the best little girl that a mom or dad could ever hope for.

"Benny, I'm roasting like a toasted cheezer, it's so hot out here!"

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

It's 83° inside our house right now. How hot is it outside? 93°. Not much of a break if you ask me, the girl who has warm air blowing on her while nursing. A baby seriously adds 20 degrees to your body temperature and that can make things pretty uncomfortable real quick. We could be sitting more comfortably, but let's have the Mr. Temperature Nazi own up to that one himself. Since living in a town where AC is a necessity but also the driving force behind staggering electric bills, Jared has been very thrifty with switching on the "cool" button.  The first night we were here he took this responsibility of manning the gauge very seriously. I guess that's his earned right to roast the family alive, as I remember my dad doing the same. Oh well, Ev and I can endure :)

Today we had a family outing back to DC. Ev and I accompanied Jared to some potential internships and afterward we peanutbutter-and-jellied-it-up at the Lincoln Memorial. It's been a rather pretty day. We're crossing our fingers that our stuff arrives tomorrow!

Wowzers, I think it's time I kiss the days of doing my hair goodbye. Humidity has me seriously contemplating chopping my hair off. Could I swing a short do? I think my face is too round for that.  We have definitely been exploring this new city of ours. And we love it. There is so much to do! Saturday we ventured downtown to give Ev her first little peak at the White House.

It's humid out here!

No we do not have our stuff yet and so yes that means I'm blogging on my phone. Blogging? Don't I have something better to do? Well when your body is still 3 hours behind the current time, you've talked all day to your husband and struggled to get your baby down for a nap, have no belongings, no cleaning or cooking to do, and your emotions are running high, mobile blogging sounds pretty good. I keep my personal journal on my computer and since I don't have that this is the best way to remember one of the biggest transitions of my life. So here our adventure begins... We made it! Our little Ev was a trooper on our excursion East by being all smiles on our flight from Fresno to LAX, getting her wiggles out on our 2 hr layover, sleeping the first 2 hrs on our 5 hr flight and entertaining passengers the last leg. We arrived at 11:30pm EST, took a taxi to meet the driver of our car and headed over around 1:30am to our new place. I must say that our first thought the next morning was "Toto, we're not in California any more." Everything is so different here. So so different. It's definitely going to take some getting used to, but atleast we already paid visits to Costco, Target and Trader Joes. That made us feel better. We drove by Jared's school, GMU, and that was cool. Basically we were freaking out all day, mostly about all the dang trees. And at night we laid in bed freaking out that we actually went through with this. That was Tuesday. This morning we woke up feeling much more inclined to embrace being Virginians. We bought a kitchen table, visited Target yet again, visited the Sully Plantation and most excitingly we visited the Air & Space Museum out in Chantilly. Remember the one in Transformers 2? That one. Today we learned to appreciate the trees. They are pretty, even if they are more wild than contained palm trees. We learned that highways have both numbers and names assigned to them and we'll have to learn that. We learned that summer rain storms are quite refreshing and that the sound of bugs chirping does not stop day or night but I find it rather soothing in a way - It's so summer-ish. We learned that magic erasers are the best for getting out marker stains on furniture purchased on Craigslist. But most importantly, we learned that no matter where we go or what happens, that our little family is golden. I love my family's guts, especially this one who just learned how to sit up 2 days ago. Yeah, family is the shizzle.
